About Paul

With over 20 years’ experience coaching senior and junior teams across all age groups, Paul has developed a wealth of experience and passion for the game he loves. Paul has an innate ability to transfer this passion to all those who come to the games.

Outside of his home club Newry Fliers Paul has coached in a number of local primary and secondary schools .Assisting the Abbey Grammar in their All-Ireland schools success and currently in his Head Coach role With St Colman’s College Newry where he balances driving experienced players to reach their full potential and creating a welcoming environment for new players to grasp the fundamentals.

In early 2019 Paul was selected as Assistant Coach with Northern Irelands U16 boys team competing in European and UK tournaments.

One of Pauls greatest passions for the sport is to ensure women and girls view the sport as accessible for them which sees him in his current role as U18 Women’s coach for Newry Fliers.

Player:

In a lifelong career with Newry Basketball, Paul first picked up a basketball at 11 years old playing for fun, learning a new sport, making lifelong friendships and growing in confidence and self-esteem. At 15 yrs. Paul stepped out on court representing his hometown in a senior game and hasn`t looked back since.

Along the way winning multiple team and individual awards including Most Valuable Player on 8 occasions for club ,7 Northern Ireland All -stars and on two recent occasions taking the top individual prize in Northern Ireland for his division.

Paul is known on court for his hunger and tenacity but most importantly for his tireless work ethic and never give up attitude. These are just some of the skills Paul seeks to transfer to his teammates and those he coaches.

As a parent, Paul understands the importance of developing confidence, self -esteem and social skills for children, and feels passionately about how sport and team play can achieve this.
